The Government of Malaysia announced that the LED street lighting will be implemented across the country in September 20
The LED street lighting has been adopted by more and more cities because of the lower energy cost and longer service life. Aberdeen of the UK and Kelowna of Canada recently announced the projects of LED street lamp replacement and intelligent system installation. In addition, the Malaysian government has indicated that it will convert all street lamps across the country to LED lighting from September 2019.
It is reported that the Aberdeen City Council in the United Kingdom is implementing a seven-year plan costing 9 million pounds (about 78.39 million yuan) to replace the traditional street lamps with LED lights. Furthermore, the city will also build in an intelligent street system, which is to be added to the new and existing LED street lamps to reach remoting control and monitoring of the lamps and improving the maintenance efficiency. The city council predict that the annual energy cost of the street lights would be reduced from 2 million pounds (17.42 million yuan) to 1.1 million pounds (9.58 million yuan) due to this implementation, and which will improve pedestrian safety meanwhile.
With the recent completion of LED street lamp revamping, Kirona, Canada, expects to save about C $16 million ($80.26 million yuan) over the next 15 years. The city council launched the project in 2017, and more than 10000 HPS streetlights were replaced with LED street lights. The cost of the project is C $3.75 million (about $18.81 million yuan). In addition to saving energy, the new LED street lamp can also reduce light pollution.
Asian cities have also been pushing for the installation of LED streetlights. The Government of Malaysia announced the nationwide implementation of LED street lamps, and said the replacement project would be launched in September 2019 and the current energy costs would be saved by about 50 percent.
